I'm not sure they've been forgotten; if they don't get more attention, I suppose that's because they were on the losing side. In school, American children learn a lot about patriots, and the storyline is always the brave patriots against the tyrannical British. I guess teachers don't want to complicate that edifying picture with too much complexity. In addition, many of the Loyalists ended up in Canada, so their descendants weren't around to defend their side.
