Growing up we always had an artificial one. Once married and had kids we always had real ones, Plan on having real ones until I'm too old to drag it home or bend down to water it. Which is a long time away. One year we lived in a real small place and got a living tree planted it that following year that to me has been the best one yet. Plan on doing it again one year.

We have an artificial tree and it is beautiful. I don't see the point in chopping down a tree, seems selfish to me. I do love the smell of real trees I must admit, so I burn pine scented candles, and people always tell me that my tree smells wonderful, lol :-P

The thing to consider is what colour tree you want.
If you want silver, white, red or black then I imagine you would have to go for artificial but green then go for real.
If you are worried about needles dropping you can either get a tree which still has its roots, which you can then plant outside and use again next year, or you can get a tree which has been treated and will not drop needles for some time.

I have to have a real tree it isn't the same without it. My Father and Sister go and pick out the perfect tree around 9ft tall and cut it down (from a tree farm). However this year I am staying with my BF and he doesn't get a tree because of his dogs (they would destroy it). I talked him into letting me get a little Charlie Brown fake tree to put up. So that will have to do when I am at his house. I will have to make sure it is up away from the dogs but at least I will have a tree.

We have an artificial one. The real one's very costly. I cannot afford to buy it every year. I love Christmas but I'd rather buy someone a gift than buy a real Christmas tree.

I currently get a real tree, but after Christmas this year we're buying an artificial one. They are expensive, and I always get sad when we have to throw the tree out- it's not very enviromentally friendly to have real trees, so I'd like to change that.

Artificial and it is pre lit. I don't mind having a fake one, but the real ones are nice. We are always struggling this time of year so it is nice that we have the fake one to fall back on

REAL! I can't even imagine having a fake tree, but I grew up where my uncle owned a Christmas tree farm down the road from us so...
By the way, they are grown to be cut for Christmas, and while I also feel sad throwing it away, it is really only more nutrients for the earth as it rots. So, no guilt please for real trees, it's not like we are clearing the rain forest.
