In Britain, people use the word "git" to describe someone stupid or annoying, or someone that they just plain don't like. It's an insult.

A git is a kid, a child, a young person. That has nothing to do with Harry Potter tho. Oh and just so u kno, a git isn't necessarily a postive way to say kid or child.

The word "git" is a British insult. Likewise, it is very improper for a young woman to say "Bloody Hell!" which Ron utters quite often. And "snogging" is a phrase that came up in the most recent books, which apparently means really heavy kissing.

It is a slang term for idiot.

I first heard the term 'randy scouse git' used by Alf Garnett (Warren Mitchell) to describe his son in law (James Booth, Tony Blair's father in law) in Till Death Us Do Part. A scouser is someone from Liverpool.
