Sometimes it is very hard to accept certain things, death for example is extreamly tough (when it happens to someone other than you of course). What drives us to go on and keep fighting is the desire to overcome whatever obstacles are placed in front of us. A lot of the time, I do not accept what is given to me, instead I fight to change it until it fits my liking. Why should I live with something that makes me unhappy when I can change it so it does make me happy?
Lets go back to death for a moment. Say whoever is closest to you, be it your parents, siblings, friends, lover, whoever, dies suddenly in a dreadful car accident and the person in the other car manages to get away unharmed. Would you just accept the fact that the killer is gone and there's nothing you can do about it? Of course not. You would get all the police in the world together to track down him or her so justice is served. Just goes to show you how determinded people can be. As for the diseased, you would grieve and grieve and would be horriably sad for quite some time, but eventually, you would accept that it happened, realize you can't change what happened, and do everything you can to overcome it. Bascially when something that horriable happens, you have two choices: 1. wallow in your grief for the rest of your life or 2. move on. I think most people would choose 2.
Humans were built to overcome anything put in front of them, and we have done so, whether it be grief, war, natural disaster, we have gotten past it all. Maybe not without a few casualities, but humanity as a whole has an amazing ability to keep going even in the most dreadful situations because we know something good is bound to happen. Reason as taught us that bad cannot last forever and whatever happend, something good will always be on the other side.

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that those things that happen in my life are either the results of choices I made or they are being used by a higher power to take me to the next level of being.

I do not have a choice. We must accept what has happened to us because it has happened and to deny it is insanity. The only control we have is over our reaction to things that happen to us. And even then you can only choose from the options you personality allows you.

I deal with the initial reactions for a while (crying, getting angry or happy). Then I wait, prepare myself and see what comes next. It might be good, it might be bad. All I know is, things are going to balance out sooner or later.

simple because it happens, i think that's what defines most people is their ability to handle what life can throw at them, we can't control it all it is these events in our lives that make us who we are and who we will become. Life isn't fair it was never meant to be that's why they call this place earth not heaven not hell earth it's flawed that's it's nature

You don't. If you cannot change it then you accept it bc you must. Depending on your temperment as to whether you accept gracefully or kicking and screaming all the way.

Evaluate its fairness.
If it is fair, let it be.
If it's not, fight it!
