I have a friend who father is elderly but still likes to use his computer. His hands don't work anymore so all he can do is read stuff. I know there is software or something out there that he could speak into his mic. and command his comouter to do functions and type his speech into text. Just don't know what it is or to call it? Any Suggestions for this present for the man?

Yes, my sister uses a Dragon computer. Since she got this her life has changed so much. She can keep in contact with everyone thru emails and surfs the web all the time. She is so happy now that she can use the computer again. It is voice activated and does take some time to learn. Because the computer has to learn your voice for instructions and it is specially made for you. It can be very pricy but there are services that will help off-set the fee. It took her a good 3 weeks with training to get it mastered.

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is called Dragon Naturally Speaking.
