Yes, there is definitely room for magic and wonder in this fast paced, violent world. In fact we feel it even more because the world is thus.
The fact that we wake up everyday, are able to see another sunrise, another day is one of the greatest wonders around. How many people go to sleep the night before with grand plans for the following day only to pass on during the night? It could be due to natural causes, heart attack, killed during a robbery, or the soul getting lost while wondering outside the body and could not return? Possibilities all.
In war-torn countries where misery and sufferings are the order of the day there is magic in the creation of another life amidst all the killings. The birth of a baby brings hope and a renewed determination to survive against all odds. The human spirit, fragile as it is sometimes, can be motivated to be as strong as adamantium, able to withstand all manner of hardships. How else would you describe this if not magical?
Taking the time to talk to our neighbours, exchanging smiles, making small talk, random acts of kindness ~ all magical and wonderful. The connection between a man and a woman and all that that entails is nothing short of true magic. Your heart beats that little bit faster at the sight of your beloved; her smile, her voice, her look make your heart melt; you pine for her in her absence, and if her life was in danger you'd willingly trade places. Beautiful, is it not?
Life is magical and full of wonder. It's sad that some people seem to have forgotten that.

There was one specific incident in my life that I experienced after which I felf was the result of some sort of magic spell either being cast or broken. And because of the fact that it was the most beautiful experience of my life AND the most painful all wrapped in one (the rose and its thorns) I was even more hurt by the possibility that what I felt was"not real" and was the result of some sort of magic rather than truth. In retrospect, I think I may have judged the situation a little too harshly, as, in my healing process, I have come to learn that there is truly a place for wonderment, enchantment and delight-- an unexpected thrill here and there-- a funky groove to dance to and believe in-- a romantic flame that never ceases to flicker. I would just hope, that, if the sandman has a price, he name it up front. Next time I'll know to decline if its my heart or soul that he wants in exchange for a little....magic.
To the poster below me, evrmoor-- I believe magic is a science that some people know and others do not and THAT'S what makes it a dangerous thing. Anytime there is knowledge that is hidden from others, the ability to manipulate and control exists. With that theory, then, one may conclude that "magic" to someone is nothing more than a "reality" that is is unknown or not understood fully by that person. It seems that wonderment and mysticism is a huge part of "magic"-- knowing and dissecting something magical reveals the truth, which does not look the same unmasked. This is the one premise that makes me feel I must shun magic, because it perpetuates an illusion and however wonderful it may seem, an illusion is not the truth. But then again-- how many other realities and philosophies do we believe that also perpetuate illusions?

Absolutely! Dire conditions create a need for escape. Just as the Great Depression and World War II brought forth the golden age of cinema in the 1930's and 1940's, circumstances that seem beyond the control of people will entice them to seek entertainment for an escape. The sale of romance fiction, the popularity of fantasy films, exotic fashions and even religions with a little wonder and magic will thrive in bad times.

the most beautiful quality of magic is luv n friendship. many here on Y!ans have become frnds. ain't that a sweet magic, working even on net were people do not meet.
as for wonder, a baby's smile, a pup's little 'woof', little birdies chirping in the morning are wonder in themselves. even with ppl fighting all over the world, they are happy. n hopes n dreams of ppl all over the world is also a wonder.

Yes, But then you'll prolly end up getting fired by your boss for endlessly musing while you're supposed to be working wont cha? :-)
Have you seen that wonderful movie by Roberto Benigni " Life is Beautiful"? Like i'm sure you have. How amazing it must be for a man to be surrounded by the stench of death, the ever present threat of his own brutal ending, to watch his fellow men and women be subjected to physical torture,...and still he hold on to his child joyously. I've often pondered on it, so what's the diff? Is it wrong to find happiness within ourselves no matter the dire circumstances?Should the outcome of our life's dictates our level of fulfilment in the here and now, i don't think so, not that i'm super duper happy, just wonder if it's mere social conditioning.
Do you find that sometimes sadness and happiness gets constricted and reppressed by popular opinion of what is deemed as appropriate?Ever been to a funeral and find total lack of sadness but fet forced to put up a long face anyway? For me, i'm a very melancholic person, but uncomfortably entangled with that is joy too.
Bewilderment is unavoidable, wonder is when you grasp the beauty of the moment and milk it baby yeah.

i understand precisely what you assert. i think of training is a factor too in view which you would be able to observe that the extra knowledgeable persons tend to be calmer. besides the fact that, very wealthy everyone seems to be exceptions. If some thing would not bypass their way then they have an inclination to grow to be belligerent and boastful. they do no longer adapt nicely. i do no longer understand what's happening. If I had to make a huge gamble then i might say it is going to be the sensation of powerlessness (loss of administration) over their lives that would desire to be one underlying factor. i think of technologies has additionally led to human beings to be extra separated from one yet another and we human beings p.c. human touch, various it.

If you mean "stop and smell the roses"...yes, we need more of that!
If you mean real "magic", then that would make this world more violent.

yes. the "disenchantment" of the world is a bigger problem thanb most people realize. Everything is taken for granted and commodified. But real appreciation (and thus lasting happiness) suffers from this.
