I just bought a 20 inch widescreen Dell Lcd monitor to go with my Sony computer. The Dell monitor says I need to put it on a 1680 X 1050 resolution but thats not an option under my resolution settings. Therefore, the pictures on my new monitor are very stretched out. Dell said to call Sony for updated drivers and I called Sony & they said there are no updated drivers . Are there other options for me to get the correct resolution? Thanks!!

The "1680*1050" is an "optimal" resolution. That doesn't mean you HAVE to use that particular resolution.

You have two options: 1) you can go through the available resolutions and find one you like. Or 2) go out and buy a better video card that supports the resolutions you do want.

If you already have the current drivers, then there is no way to go higher than what is available. It means your card doesn't support it. If it doesn't support it, then there is no way... Other than purchasing a new video card.

You will most likely need to invest in a new video card which will support that new monitor. Generally an onboard standard video port does not have enough memory or acceleration to support larger hi resolution screens.

You need to try a video card that will support the resolution you are looking for.

You might need a better video card. Is it the original that came with the computer or did you upgrade. Also the refresh rate on a monitor like that should be at least 120 hertz.
