Since 47 is 97.7% of x, x multiplied by 0.997 (also 97.7%) equals 47:

x times 0.997= 47 or,
0.997x= 47
To find x itself, divide each side by 0.997.
So, when you solve for x, x would be the answer to your question.
Hope this helps!

You need to divide 47 by .977 (which is the equivalent of 97.7%). That will get you the answer, and since you didn't want the actual answer, I trust you can do the division of (47)/(.977). =)

The other answerers have give you what you need, though some have clearly misunderstood what you said about not wanting the actual answer.

What I want to say is it's great to see a student asking for help in trying to understand what you're learning, instead of asking someone else to do their homework for them (which is what some others blatantly do).

Good luck in your studies!
