is this because adults don't get bored or are they more adept at dealing with it?

Adults are too stressed to be bored. When we actually get 5 minutes its shock.

If you mean teenagers (younger kids are another story, to some extent), it's probably because they've grown up being spoon-fed just about everything, from their education, to how to entertain themselves. They (even my teen admits this!) have very little imagination, patience for studying, even less curiosity for learning. And the constant barrage of stimuli (TV, music, cell-phones, IM-ing, movies, video games) makes sitting and JUST THINKING almost impossible!

When I was a teen, I spent HOURS doing just that. I have a high boredom threshold anyway, but I remember my peers doing lots of contemplation as well.

For kids, tell them to turn OFF all the stuff (phones, stereos, TV, etc.) and just read or think. They also need more exercise!

Another thing I don't know about for other families, but we used to travel quite a bit, nothing fancy, just weekend or day trips, w/some weeks in Fla. Maybe kids now need more exposure to other places and people.

The "Information Age" was supposed to connect us to the world, but in a way, it's cut us off, everyone sitting at home, furiously typing away on their computers! Myspace isn't a substitute for a walk in the woods, hanging w/friends or a solo walk in the woods.

As adults we can pretty much do what we want. Anything that we are doing that makes us bored is something we see as needing to be done. Kids on the other hand are forced to do stuff they do not want to do pretty much all the time and they do not see the importance of the things they are told to do, like go to school.

If you are bored you are 1) not busy enough or 2) not doing things that interest you. When you are an adult you usually know enough about yourself to know what types of things interest you and spend free time doing that. In addition, adults tend to have much less free time because they usually have the responsibilities of earning money, keeping up a house and raising children.

hi Lioness, i attempted to locate "objectified" and "objectification" in the dictionary and no excitement. properly, i'm no longer precisely useful I understand your queston, yet think of i might have an concept. besides, have you ever heard of the "bell curve"? it quite is a curve it relatively is formed like a bell and does a competent activity of representing statistics. As for attractiveness, at one end of the curve we've the least captivating and on the different end the main. the comparable could be real for earnings ... poorest on one edge and richest on the different. in the midst of the bell we've for all time-honored human beings. i think of what you're asserting is real, yet basically basically a fact of existence. we've the finished spectrum for the two genders. As for why adult males do no longer protest ... i assume they understand that it quite is basically the way issues are and protests are no longer vulnerable to alter something. wish this facilitates!

Adults who become bored seem to fix it by becoming focused on something.

Adolescents are 'bored' because of a lack of focus. So they focus on their selves ~ and thus increase their boredom as they rarely have a focus ...leaving them to announce to the world, 'I'm bored,' as if it is the fault or problem of everyone else.

My answer has been, 'Sorry. Not my problem. If you are bored, then it's your responsibility. Change it, or someone will change it for you by finding you something to do.'

I can't think of a time when it did not work.

To an adolescent, it's a challenge to others. To the adult, it's a challenge to the self ...least ways, that's been my take on it.

Sash.

Adults are too busy doing fun things, like working long hours, shopping for food, paying bills and putting up shelves and cleaning the house.

If your teen son/daughter claims to be bored, show them how to decorate a room, and put a paintbrush in their hand. They'll soon stop complaining.

kids always get things done/arranged for them, they are always being taken places, bought stuff, generally entertained. When there's a break, they get bored! Adults have to find their own entertainment so can decided when to do something or when to voluntarily do nothing - which is what I've done all day today, it's been great!

Adults get bored, they just got bored of harping on about it. The only way you can stop being bored is to find something to do.
Teenagers haven't figured that out yet.
A bored teenager needs to learn more about themselves cos only they can decide what will stop them being bored.

The kids are living in a era in which they have everything imaginable and seem to want more. They are never satisfied doing simple things like playing baseball, basketball. or going to a park with friends to have fun. Adults are better able to cope because we appreciate things more.
