I need to rebuild a Chevy 350 that I have. I would like to import all the original parts for it but dont want to end up buying the wrong ones. I being a novice am afraid of doing just that. Please tell me weather there is a differenence between 350's and if there is how can I tell one apart from another?
Thanks

one thing you may want to do is disassemble it first to make sure it is not a rebuild allready.
i ordered stock parts for my 350 and found .040 over pistons in it and a reground crank as well.bought the truck used and didnt know it had been done
good luck

on the block will be block casting numbers which can tell you alot about the engine.also if your block says " hencho en mexico" throw it away it not worth rebuilding. other thing to watch for is if the engine was overbored which wouldnt make it a 350 anymore, and if theres 2 bolts or 4 bolts holding the bearing caps in place. if it all gets way too confusing for ya, just trade in that block to adavanced auto, or auto zone for a already rebuilt 350, that has a warranty and is gauranteed to be ready. all that you have left to do is finish assembling everything else

On the block there is a code. Use it to determine the year, month, line and location of manufacture. With this information you can get your hands on just about anything you need for it. some things like pulleys, bolts and such will be harder to locate. I'd suggest junk yards for that stuff.
