Legally , the only type of place you couldget a download would be from users of myspace or similar sites, who offer free downloads of their music. Otherwise you're looknig P2P networks such as Limewire et all. These do explicitly ask you not to infringe copyright laws though. At the end of the day the responsibility is yours.

The Live Music Archive has 10s of 1000s of songs you can download with the artist's permission. Unlike P2P sites (limewire, bearshare, etc.) the LMA is 100% legal, legit, anonymous, and ultra-cool.

The legal issues aside I would suggest http://www.thepiratebay.org , this is a file sharing site that relies upon bit torrents and as such requires that you run a torrent client program. The best one I personally found is utorrent and you can get that here http://www.utorrent.com/ . If you go down this route for your music, videos, books, games and software etc I would strongly suggest that your virus and spyware checkers are kept up-to-date. There are many more sites that deal with torrents that your utorrent program can handle.

limewire is perhaps the most common downloading site.. however it's not exactly legal and in extreme cases can even crash your computer. but all that aside, it's an awesome program in which you can download music and videos. the choice is up to you
