First off, I have never seen a 2 cycle snow blower engine. MTD, uses any oil such as your lawn mower would, it is a four stroke cycle engine(4 stroke) . A 10w30 would do just fine, but it is more of a summer oil and is thicker in colder weather. Beings its a snow blower, I'd use a 5W30, or 5W20, to keep from scoring bearings at cold temperatures, it is thinner and won't be like molasses at cooler temperatures.

What type of oil and gasoline should I use in my snow blower?
Use regular unleaded automotive gasoline in your snowblower. If the gas supply won't be used up within 30 days, pour in a gasoline stabilizer additive as well. SAE 5W-30 oil is recommended for your snow blower. The exact amount will be specified in your owner's manual. Remember to change the oil after the first 5 hours of operation and then change it regularly after every 25 hours of use, or as a general rule, at the end of every season.

If yours is a two-stroke(the type you mix the oil with the gas). Just buy a good quality Two-stroke oil, it's also used in chainsaws and weedwackers.
Otherwise use a grade 5w20. This will give you great protection and easy starting. You can choose a regular, or a synthetic, which is what I prefer for even greater engine life.
I like Shell, but use whatever brand you trust. Keep warm!

NEVER use straight 30 weight in a snowblower...... it will damage the engine in cold temps..... (30 weight gets really thick...... try a quart in the freezer sometime)
Use a synthetic 5w-30..... or you can use a conventional 5w-30... but the synthetic will outperform it always.... (cold flow, high heat stability)
If its a 2 cycle (and yes they make 2 cycle blowers) use a 32:1 mixture..... thats 4 ounces per gallon of gas.

well it depends if its 2 or 4 cycle. 2 cycle needs to be mixed with the gas they sell premeasured bottles of this. 4 cyle motors can use 5w30 or SAE 30 motor oil ...SAE 30 is better
