Should I just send money? Or buy a gift?

How well do you know this boy?

If you know something about his hobbies or interests it would be nice to give him a gift that will allow him to pursue them further.

At his age I received a kit from Radio Shack that allowed me to hook up all kinds of wires and make a device that allowed me to eavesdrop on my brother. :-) It also did many other things, but for me being able to spy on my younger brother was decidedly cool.

Does he like to read? Maybe there's a series that he's been reading and you could get him the next title. Or a magazine / comic book subscription.

Check out the Discovery Store - they have tons of great gifts for all tastes and ages. I bought a butterfly habitat for my four year old nephew and he loved watching the caterpillar evolve into a butterfly (which he then set free).

I prefer to buy gifts for kids that will help them learn (even if it's a little bit) while having fun.

Sending money (unless he's saving up for something large) always tells me that the person doesn't know me well enough to pick out a gift.

Well boys like game cube and other really weird things but I think that a 10 year old boy would like the new Wii its soooooo cool and not real exspensive. I am a ten year old but a girl, but all the boys are talking about it!!!!!!

My guy friends like iPods. A lot of them playe guitar, so one of those would be nice. Or a gift card to a book store. Most of them have hoards of money, so that would be pointless.

if you don't know him very well it would be fine to send 20$ or w.e but if you know him well i would recommend either a movie- ask parent so you don't get a repeat- or if he's into sports you can never go wrong with a soccer ball or football..

I think the best toys are action figures or the PSP (Play Station Portable).
