Send it by airmail parcel post. You will have to also insure and register it. Make sure that your insurance also covers your postage and registration. The reason being is that so much mail goes astray and is not delivered in South Africa due to postal workers having long fingers. This is not derogatory at all but pure fact. Mail me for details.

It depends from where you are sending it. Your best bet - simply because time is limited - is by sending it by airmail. It will take approx. 10 working days (that is, at least, the case when sending a parcel from SA to Europe). Take in consideration that on heavy parcels, the receiving party will have to pay duty costs when fetching the parcel at the post office. My mom sent me a parcel recently, which was Approx. 5 kg and I had to pay 60 rand (8 dollar). It is not a not, but it is something to take in consideration.

I can't say too much about the costs, as that differs from country to country. I do know that sending a 1, 7 kg parcel to Holland cost me 270 rand (about 25 dollar).

My advice: post it NOW! Last year, my aunt sent me a parcel early December and it arrive end if January. Between mid December and January, many businesses in SA work a bit slower or they even close down completely. This has effect on amongst other the post services.

Having mailed programs between the U. S. and SA from each and every aspect of the Atlantic, it really is a crapshoot no matter if it ever makes it to you. And it continually takes a lot longer than promised. My mom despatched a kit precedence Mail (so it became meant to achieve in 7-10 corporation days) in October and that i have been given it 6 weeks later. upload to that the inclement climate by a lot of SA which has slowed down postal service and the overall shadiness of the SAPS, and that's everybody's wager. i'd call the placed up workplace and note if it has a US monitoring huge style yet. quicker or later, even as it alterations fingers, the SA monitoring huge style will be exchanged for a US monitoring huge style. in the adventure that they don't provide you with one, your kit remains in South Africa's possession.

Airmail will cost you a fortune.

Whatever you decide, if you send it through the postal system you need to make it look as unattractive as possible to South African post office workers. A few years ago there was cctv footage of Jhb emplyees rifling through parcels and emptying out all the good stuff and it still happens.

When I post something out there, I have to admit that I'm not always that accurate when Iisting the contents on the customs slip they stick on the parcel. I come up with something like "canvas samples" or similar - anything to make them pass over my parcel for one that looks and sounds more attractive.

the best way is to sent it registered through the post office its costs more but at least its safer. I know from experience. I live in Athens-Greece and sent a birthday present to my sister in April of course the parcel never arrived so after making inquries through the po and with the help of the post master i was reimbursed for the value of the parcel sent. so send it registered mail.
PS the money was paid out after about 5months but so what at least i got it back

Send it with a courier company, i'm not sure how much it will be, but shop around - There are so many to choose from. They are also very reliable in sending packages on time and tracking numbers prevent it from getting lost.
