It does me and I don't know why. I like classic rock, "outlaw" country, and southern rock. Use to be most of the people my age didn't know who Lynyrd Skynyrd was but suddenly everybody loved them and it made the band less appealing to me. I mean, I still like there songs like Coming Home and so forth but I'll be happy if I never hear Sweet Home Alabama again (no offense to those who like that song).

it can get annoying because then it becomes a fad
also, sometimes your happy to be in on the ground floor
i think it depends on how often you start hearing their songs after they blow up
no matter what song/group, things do get old

yeah, I understand what you are saying. According to your nickname, you like Led Zep? well, I was in a huge mall about 10 yrs ago and it was the first time I heard Led Zep being piped in. MY Led Zeppelin mainstream? UGH! Now, they use their music to push cadillacs, and aerosmith is selling dodges? Is there no limits anymore!!! LOL
It takes away some of the appeal, that's for sure.
But on the other hand, sometimes I stop liking a band when they get really popular if they lose that special something that gave them the breakthrough and start playing to the crowd.
I went through that with Bruce Springsteen. His first couple of albums are priceless, but I seriously could live the rest of my life nicely without Born in the USA.

That's how I feel about Phish. After Jerry Garcia died, a lot of Deadheads glommed onto Phish and they became almost mainstream and a lot changed forever.
"Preacher's Daughter" is my favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd song....

If you like a band less just because it's easier to find to people to talk to about them, then i think your kinda stupid. i can't stand it when people say "oh yeah i liked that band before they got popular:" Now if they sell out, that's a different story.
Oh, and i'm pretty sure everybody would be happy if they never heard the song "Sweet Home Alabama" again. It's annoying and about 10,000 people destroy it on American Idol every year.

if I like a group i like them wheither or not others do. There have been instances where I have gotten sick of certain songs by them because they were overplayed on the radio but i still like the group

Yes it does. Even when someone likes music before I hear it, I will tell them I don't like it. It happened with Green Day and Coldplay...but now I enjoy their music!

I don't let others alter my feelings. If like a band, I like it.
