If one can prove that these people did inherit wealth from slavery, or enjoyed other wealth-asscoiated privileges from such inheritance, I don't see why not.

No, and not because I'm racist or because I think slavery was right. No simply because every nation on earth was founded on top of other shoulders. For America, yes we stole the land from the indians and boguht black slaves, but if you will recall in history the only reason we had slaves at all was because black traders in Benin ran out of ivory and began selling the white men their enemies. Indians sold us much of the U.S, Manhattan Island for one, and though the Bristish bought it for low fees it was bought nonetheless; you don't see anyone complaining about the poor shop owner who sold something for lower than it was worth.
EVERY country was founded on the backs of others, Egypt used the Jews, the Muslims stole their land from the Christians, Spain, at one time, held most of South America under their thumb.
You live in the past, black slavers sold the white black slaves, its that simple. Yes, slavery was morally wrong, but most countries used it, and there are African countries that still use it today. Every country that has been founded has most likely been founded at the expense of another people. Americans didn't have black slaves because they were racist, its because it was cheaper than using white indentured servants from Britain.

Absolutely!!! Everyone must pay for the unfair treatment and outright thievery of past times. In fact, I have already decided where we should start. We need to immediately give all of new england back to the british, the midwest to the french, the southwest to the spaniards, and alaska to the last ousted russian czar!!!! I think that leaves all of us true americans who refused to make our way on the backs of others to either live in michigan ( we KILLED all the indians who lived there) or go back to Ireland (and no one will ever figure out who that should belong to).

Why don't we get real crazy and pay me for my Irish grandmother's slavery and for My Comanche heritage of a stupid useless piece of ground that wont raise stock or crop? Make everyone that lives today Pay for the sins of their ancestors.
Wait... umm... I would have to pay myself.
That don't sound right.
Let's see.
The whites either killed us or put us on reservations and still today refuse us our sovereignty as the Native-American Nation.
Irish people were still enslaved by whites when my great great great grandmother came to America.
The whites took our languages our lands, our livestock, crops women, children, fathers, mothers and pets and destroyed them.
Justice?
Look, we don't blame today's white people for the sins of their ancestors. At least I don't.
We have no problem's with black people.
We don't go around demanding justice for crimes we never committed... Why should you?

I'm pretty sure that most who directly profited from slavery lost their money in the Civil War and during Reconstruction.

Return to who / whom ? All slave owners and slaves are dead. You sound like one of those people who want something for nothing. What about the native Americans ????? They had their entire country stolen from them !

I think if a black person can prove that a company profited off their ancestors inslavement they should pay restition.
proving it is the hard part, the second hardest is how much should they pay?
the hour salery back then (which does nothing for todays economy)
the current one (how many hours did they work?),
should they get shares if it is a corperation (what is there are none, what will it do to other innocent shareholders?),
should there be one court decided general one-lump sum (if so how much?).
it's a very sticky matter.
