Free Trade vs. Fair Trade

Choose something that's a little out of the ordinary. People have been debating abortion for centuries. Check out some newspapers and argue both sides of a current event: celebrities adopting in Africa vs. adopting in the US, Democrat vs. Republican policy in Iraq, or the pros and cons of the US getting involved in the Dafur conflict in Sudan. You can even choose something more local. The people in one of the communites in my area are in a heated debate over whether the owner of the local funeral home should add a crematorium to his business that is in the middle of town. Lots of pros and cons there!

The most important thing to remember is to chose a topic on which you can argue both sides, regardless of your personal opinion. Good luck!

Check out http://www.ClassTopic.com They have some great topics that I've used in the past. Each topic has three good sources to get you started on the research, too.

pick a topic where people could disagree and make sure you include counter arguments. pick somthing you want to be changed, school should start later in the morning, your brother or sister should be put up for adoption, uniforms for school, everyone should own a gorilla, anything you could argue with someone about.

hope this helps!
