I don't have the motherboard's manual. It's a Compaq and I want to upgrade my RAM. Is there any way to find out if my computer takes ddr memories or maybe some kind of older type?

I know how to do this. But your computer must have DirectX 9.0 or higher. If it doesn't, then there is another way. If your computer has DirectX 9.0 or higher then:

1. Click the START MENU
2. Click RUN
3. Type in the box DxDiag

DirectX should scan your computer for all the information. It may take a few minutes. The first screen that you come to should hold the answer.

Now, If you don't have DirectX 9.0 or higher, follow these instructions:

1. Click the START MENU
2. Hold your cursor over PROGRAMS until the PROGRAMS sub-menu appears
3. Hold your cursor over ACCESSORIES until the sub-menu appears
4. Hold your cursor over SYSTEM TOOLS until the sub-menu appears
5. Click DISK DEFRAGMENTER

There should be 2 things on the menu if you don't have any thing in the drives such as a flash drive, CD, or floppy disk. The (C:) should tell you your memory. You don't have to click on anything. It tells you the Capacity, Free Space, %Free Space, and the System File. Unfortunately, it does not give you the RAM information.

You can also take it out and look at it. Just make sure you are careful with the clips that hold it in and make sure you do not have static in your hands.
