Any women out there have taken pre-natal vitamins and been really really sick?? I just stopped mine yesturday because my husband said it's been since i started those that I have been sick and i'm okay today. So it must be that anybody else had this?? And what alternative did you use? I have substituted it with my folic acid again though.

I had the same problem too. They made me extremely nauseous. My OB took me off of the prenatals and told me to take 2 Flintstones childrens vitamins a day instead. I no longer felt sick and I had a very healthy baby boy!

you can't just stop them. you need to take a permission from the doctor, so you will take something else. but its good you are having folic acid.
this happened to me also.
they say the first 3 months you need folic acid and after the 3 months pre natal vitamins. Suppose after 3 months you won't be sick anymore. i did everything with the doctor's permission and that's how you should do it.
because my doctor before telling me to stay 3 months without pre natal vitamins, she took blood and found my hemoglobal and ferritin very good. Before i got pregnant, i took pre natal vitamins for 5 months. so i have a good store.
so please, don't do anything without the doctor's permission because everyone is different.
good luck

if it is them that are making you sick then carry on taking folic acid and try and eat food that are rich in those vitamins especially fruit, veg and meat.

how lnog do you feel sick for is it all day or justwhen you ake the tablets. whenever i take tablets of any kind i feel sick afterwards. i think its because i have a fear of choking and i dont like swallowing them.

hope this helps.

ps i didnt take any vitamins or folic acid during my pregnancy as my morning sickness was so bad i couldnt keep them down long enough and my daughter was born perfect.

I don't have that problem but i do know a couple of people that do. And they had to buy foods that cantained the vitamins and minerals until the doc could come up with a substitute, because she was alergic to off brands as well a prenatal.

I agree with the first answer. Call your doctor. My doctor had to prescribe me 4 different types of vitamins before I found one I could take. If you have a hard time swallowing them, ask about the Precare Prenatal Chewables. Those were the only ones I could take during both of my pregnancies.

Try taking them right before you go to bed. I had to do this.
They upset my stomach too much. You should be taking the folic acid tablets. You need from 1 - 5 mg a day, you can not get that much by eating.

The vitamins did not make me sick, I just can't swallow pills so my doctor told me to take flintstone vitamins instead.

Yes they made me very sick and very (whispers) constipated.

I had my doctor prescribe me a few different kinds and NEVER took the otc kind...ew...
they were so bad that I actually burped up the taste of the pill for hours.

are you eating when you take the vitamins. that's what my doctor told me to do. she said its too much vitamin to take with no food. if that's not working go back to your doctor and ask is there's something else you can take. Good Luck!
