Sit down with a pencil and paper and spend an hour thinking of exactly why you do want the job. Because it is a progressive company with great advancement opportunities, perhaps it is close to home and in a field of work that you have allot of experience in and enjoy doing, because you enjoy helping people and this fits that. Write down anything and everything that comes to mind and then decide what the most honest, accurate, and sincere answer is.

Well, it depends on the job. If you're applying for fast food or something, just say it's a way to make money and get experience in the workforce.

If it's an actual occupation, your reasoning will have to be a little deeper. When I had my first interview (for the job as a nursing assistant which I am in currently), when asked that question, I said I wanted the job because my mother is a nurse and interested me in nursing, and the hours are good, so I can still have time for homework while in high school, and I'll get money, and satisfaction from helping people as well.

So really, it depends on the job...a lot.

You should say that it was your childhood dream to get the job, or that you think it is the sort of job that will make you feel you are playing your part and doing some good in the world. Just make sure it's cheesey!

God hate that question at interviews!!!!! Often v hard to say why other than cos it interests me, cos i want to go into tht field and this job is um in tht field lol! I usually say something about wanting to be in tht industry long term and then talk about how the specific role interests me as it matches my skills and experience, and then give a brief sysnopsis what these are and how relevant to the job. Also pick out specific aspects of the job that ilike and that i think my skills match e.g. attracted to the fact its client orientated, etc etc. Scary thing to start me thinking about, applying for jobs and goin for interviews at the moment, so darn stressful......long long forms and then bizarre interviews....fun, fun fun!!!
