On the Disney Channel/ Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus program recently, the star (Miley) and her on again/off again beau discussed their current partners. The male character told "Hannah" that his girlfriend "waxed." The show--and Cyrus--are clearly geared to the younger crowd. Isn't this wildly inappropriate? It sure is to this parent. Mr. Cyrus, according to Wikipedia, is popular in the Christian and Gospel genres.

I notice that shows geared towards children are getting worse and worse. they talk about dating, when there at 10 year olds watching these shows. Hello... what does a 10 year old need with a bf or gf? These children are so into getting bf/gfs that they don't even pay attention in school.

I think Hannah Montana is a silly show. It really doesn't teach children much, just that you should act stupid to be with some guy named Jake.

I have never liked jokes that are geared to younger children to include these kinds of topics. There's two schools of thought: (1) one should have these topics so kids don't become unduly prudish and (2) there are topics that should remain somewhat private within the family.
I'm for the second one. The exception I think was topics as presented on The Cosby Show. They would show how outrageous certain trends were by having one of the kids try it or want it. That's a different technique than trying to pass off a trend as the norm. Producers of waxing products pay a large amount of money to have things like younger kids waxing mentioned in TV shows. (That's not just waxing products, but cell phones, CD manufacturers, snack food makers etc)

no its not appropriate, esp. for childrens programming, but the problem is people are becoming apathetic towards that sort of thing. take for example a rated R movie from the 60's and a pg-13 movie now, they are pretty much the same thing(content wise)

Indeed no. but Disney channel hasn't been doing that good of a job lately, starting with that show.

I think it depends on where the "waxing" refers to.

If it's about your legs or your eyebrows then no problem. If it's about bikini lines and Brazilians, then no.
