Mariah. Why?!
I can't let this one go without ranting. Poor, sad Mariah. Here you have a beautiful, talented, clever young woman who has become an inane, pointless, uninspiring and much ridiculed freak of nature. Mariah once had TONS of class. She was stylish, popular, pretty, and most importantly of all, respected for her talent.
Carey has an untypically versatile and impressive vocal range; her voice was - and remains - arguably amazing and undeniably strong. In the earlier stages of her career, she sang a mixture of strong, emotive, feisty, and vulnerable, honest songs that people admired, and could relate to. She was viewed as a promising songwriter, with a likely future as one of the great modern soul singers.
So what does the daft bint do? Promptly starts making cheese-laden, bubblegum pop. For the last few years, her songs have been so terrible, that they are not even worth the attention of the plastic walking tit that is Britney. Even the latter's sycophantic load of bull, about being a slave and being born to make some ugly w@nker happy, is better Mariah's recent trash.
Christina Aguilera (not my cup of tea, but I think she has a stunning voice) said Mariah was one of her idols; Mariah promptly said that she would not play a concert if Christina was performing there as well. Was she really so afraid of younger, pretty singers stealing her thunder? Not that she had much left at that point.
On the other hand, I know she had a hard childhood and a lousy marriage, and obviously needs help and support. The poor woman has suffered and seemed, in the past, to be a strong character. I just get somewhat depressed seeing someone so talented make a laughing stock of themselves. Sort yourself out, Ms Scary. You're too talented to become another pointless, silly pop has-been. Leave that to the likes of Britney.
