You did not say what he loves about the outdoors. A good hiking stick. A digital camera for some great shots of nature. Good pair of hiking boots and socks. Binoculars? How about a new day-pack with some outdoor goodies ie: water bottles, chapstick, a utility knife, a hiking book of an area he has always wanted to hike. Is he a hunter? That ear thing that blocks out background noise. Fisherman? hard cases to protect his fishing poles, lures, antique lures, etc., Camping? a good cast iron pot, warm light weight sleeping bag, warm light weight underwear.....can ya tell we like the outdoors. You said he likes the outdoors so u shuould get him a real nice tent so he can go camping in it... i got my dad a tent at kmart and it had 3 differant "rooms" and he loved it and he loves the outdoors also.

binoculars, telescope, gift card, gift certificate, C.D. of favorite music, DVD movies ( Man's favorite Sort is funny if he is a fisherman ), outdoor " how to " DVD, a good knife, Archery equipment, one use cameras, gloves, hunting or fishing jacket, are a few ideas.
