You're not alone. A lot of people feel lonely at this time of the year (especially with Christmas approaching), cos they miss their loved ones who are living abroad or who have left this world. It is a particularly difficult and lonely time for senior citizens in the care of old folks homes, and for foster kids as well.

I've heard a thing known as "seasonal depression" which is caused by the change of climate, but I don't know if that's what you might be encountering.

Loneliness is a common problem. So GO OUT AND MAKE SOME FRIENDS then you can ask them round to your place and then you won't feel lonely any more. This time of year is great for volunteering ... you could help people and not be alone at the same time. Me, I'm lonely but am going on holiday soon and then I will be with friends. In general, lots of us are lonely it's just that some people never tell anyone. Good luck!!!

I do know how you feel, truly. My family live abroad and I lived in the University where I studied Nursing. As Christmas came closer I thought that I was going to have to get a small meal to eat and stay alone in my Uni room. The thought was quite upsetting. Sitting and eating alone while everyone was away. Then as Christmas due near. I got 5 invites to peoples houses over Christmas. At first I thought this was just pity and didn't know what to do. Then a very kind mature Asian lady said that If I wasn't too busy over Christmas, would I come over and share Christmas with her and her family. As she seemed the most genuine I went and had a good time.
The upshot to this is you do not have to be alone while there are others around you. Maybe you can help out at a charity place or a homeless shelter. You have performed a worthy task and met some interesting people. Christmas is for sharing and not just presents. Good luck and God bless you. Let us know how you got on.

its normal to feel more depressed on holidays....especially christmas... it gets the mind going...all you see on tv is happy family and friends etc.. makes you feel like you dont have friends...and makes you think about how your family never gets together. Truth is, we are all that way.. no one has a perfect life/family/or friends..
This time of year, there are so many suicides and homicides and just different things like that b/c of the increase in anxiety and depression. If you need help, contact your nearest Behavioral Health Hospital.
Go out with your friends more, and think about what you are thankful for.. not what you are missing.

No...it is ok...i feel lonely too...speically when the weather is not sunny!!!

One day, you will no longer be lonely...so, just hang in there and enjoy the little things in life till you find someone who will take away these feelings of loneliness...

Lonely is the matter of the mind and if you don't mind it doesn't matter.

Choose your road to be straight and walk that road with a tall force, but if you choose to bewilder yourself and come down upon YOU then YOU will do absolutely nothing about it.

A lot of people get lonely around the holidays.. holidays mean family and togetherness, and if you don't have that, you might feel left out.
