How do I unstick my storm windows? All through the year when they were up, and many, many years, when they were up they were directly exposed to the elements.

I am hoping for the simplest, not complex, answer, cause I don't have alot of tools or experience, or know how.

There are two older people I gotta keep warm here.

Even if I was a power-house, which I am not, I would certainly be no match for them unaided!

And they are still up, I live in a cold climate. The fuel bill is already getting higher.

Is WD40 enough to do it?

Or is there a special tool of some kind.

If there are no spring clips holding it up, and they are just sitting up in the raised position... if they have a flat top to them, bet if you put a 2x4 on top of it , and with a hammer.. gently tap down on them, if they don't budge easily, then they could be corroded/rusted into place. Don't try and force them, but the 2x4 will evenly distribute the force and if they are rusted into place break it free. The WD40 could work, but I'd get something for getting stuck bolts out, more of a penatrant.

Duct tape!... umm nope that wont work here.. but make sure that there are no locks on them. Usually storm windows do have something that holds them up or down.

Try the WD40 - favorite of mine as a Single Mom.....when I am out, I have even used cooking spray...works the same. Use plent of spray and maybe tap with something (like the rubber end of a hammer) all the way down. Good luck

you could try the spray, you may also want to check and see it it is painted shut. if so, simply using a razor blade down the sides should release the tension. other wise, keep working on them... they are sure to give one time or another! also, you can cut some plastic and tape it around the windows to keep the cold air out. we do that in the winter! good luck, and keep working on loosening those windows!

If your storm windows are sealed... Try using your hair dryer to warm up the sealant so it will let loose of the storm window. You can use a case knife or flat screwdriver to pry the window away from the seal to get the window out!

If you are talking about aluminium triple track storm windows? Then simply pull in on the spring clip thingies and then pull on the pane. It should come right out of the track and that would free it up. Then lower the pane and clip it back in same as you got it out.

Use WD-40 or penetrating oil to loosen them up lightly tap with something that will not chip the paint or dent the wood. Should work.
