Since not long after I purchased this washer the grey rubber lining that you see when you open the machine has become more and more warped. It does not appear that the leak came from the back, so I suspect it came from the front through that rubber thing. I've tried searching online, but have only been able to find complaints about the washer, no help in fixing it. So I have two questions, does anyone know how to fix it, and how do I find a good appliance repair person that doesn't charge as much as the washer costs to replace?

You want to know a secret? You don't really need to mail the warranty forms back. If the washer is still under warranty, and you have the sales slip, you're OK.
If it's out of warranty, complain to Whirlpool. They have a good reputation. Mention to them you've seen many complaints on the Internet about this problem. If they know this machine has a defect, they may cover some or all the cost.
If not, this shouldn't be too expensive. Since you know what has to be done (and it's common repair for this machine) call the local repair shops. Just ask specifically what it will cost to have that particular part replaced. They will be able to give you a price on the phone. Don't let them give you the "We have to see it routine". Just try another place. Make sure they have a guarantee in writing for their repairs. Just in case there's a problem.
I hope some of this has been helpful, good luck.

Does the washer come with a Garentee, or at least a Limited Warrantee. If so maybe they will have to repair it.

Have you sent it back to the company. Ya know, it comes with a part that goes back to the company, and that you tear off and send back, but there is usually a limited amount of time to do it.

If not, than it is not the companies responsibility. But maybe if you call them Whirlpool they will still be able to help you.

If all else fails, may I recommend a White Westinghouse? They actually charge less just because they are white.

I gotta Maytag. The lonesome repairman, I believe that. This one has never needed a repair since it was purchased many decades ago!

Now don't kick yourself if ya didn't mail that thing. I never get them mailed in either!

Call 866-698-2538 to reach Whirlpool Customer Assistance. They do sell parts.

Put Whirlpool washer maintainance into the search bar, and you will find alot more.
