The first answer is totally incorrect. There is no corralation between memory and IQ. Einstein was legendary for his bad memory. He frequently forgot to dress when he went outdoors unless someone reminded him. He forgot his address on a regular basis, and many other things like that.

IQ is esentially analytical ability that does not require memory, but is more involved with seeing connections between presented facts. While there is a recognized form of genius based on memory (Fact-Archivist Genius), for the most part, memory plays no part.

Cheers, mate.

IQ and memory can be tested independently from each other using the Weschler Memory Scale (WMS - pronounced whims) and the Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). These are generally used by psychologists when profiling intelligence and memory and are respected as being one of the best tests available to measure the two.

In answer to your question no, just because someone has a high IQ does not mean they have a good memory and vice versa. Someone with low intelligence may have the best memory, and someone with a high IQ may be really forgetful.

Yes. But it not as directly proportional as you would think. The only memory-related things tested in a standard IQ test checks your retention ability. You can not, of course, learn the 'ideal' answers to IQ test by heart and thus cheat the system. It also tests you cognitive ability, analytical ability and logical and numerical thinking. A super memory alone will not get you past the test. Also, a person with high IQ can have lower memory than a person with lower IQ.

Standardized IQ tests do take memory into consideration but they also measure many other things like visuospatial skills, processing speed, and reasoning abilities which are fairly unrelated to memory.

A little but IQ is more based on your ability to figure out something you've never experienced before.

High IQ people are problem solvers, they can look at something confusing and figure it out.

Not neccesarily...a few years ago, while recovering from a soy-damaged thyroid and experiencing intermittent dementia, I had terrible memory problems. But when I took the TICKLE IQ test online, my IQ came out as the same number it was in 6th grade.

I think it is more the speed at which you access and process stored information. That's related to memory, but not really the same thing.
