It is y = mx+b. But in some cases if you figure it out and your b (y-intercept) is negative you could make it - b.

For example:

I figure out the slope intercept form for a line and I get

y = 3x + -2(The two is negative)

I can rewrite this as

y = 3x-2
They both a re the same thing though

y=mx+b
You want to have y equal to the y-intercept when x = 0.
