Are you aware of the fact that the word "occult" just means hidden? There are, after all, a great many reasons why something might be hidden. Many of the so-called secrets are simple truths about life and about human nature which, were they to be stated simply to those with no background for it, would inevitably be misunderstood. Take the example of the response most people had in the years after Freud first forced them to admit that sex has magical power over us all, one way or another.

Viewed philosophically (you chose the category, friend), there are valid definitions of magic (and magick, and I nod to the difference) in which practically everything has its own sort of magic. Certainly you would be hard pressed to explain to any new mother you happen to know that she had not just undergone a magical experience. (This from an observer; I never managed it myself. That's another story.)

And if anything is magic, then sex is magic. Can any reasonable adult argue with me?

But magick has its own rules, and one of the most well-known and ancient is stated variously as "what goes around, comes around," or the more precise "What you do returns to you three-fold." If you normally do good, this is great. If, on the other hand you do harm, that harm, when multiplied by three, may kill you, or permanently ruin your life.

Beware of the Dark Side, whatever you call it.
