I agree with the first post advising of a head gasket leak. The engine itself only holds about 4 and half quarts of oil. Although an oil leak as severe as you describe would leave me wondering if you have more than just a head gasket leak. The job to replace the head gasket should cost around $120.00 (for the head gasket set from Chrysler) + about 6.5 hours of labour + oil & filter + coolant. Do the math and decide if it's worth putting that kind of money into it. Hope this helps.

Check the head gasket. Its a very common problem with those. They leak from the rear right corner of the engine, (Generally, but not always) and drip near the rear, right middle. ( Again, not always,) Good luck.
I got the update, and the location does indeed point to a head gasket, but you should take it to a shop to have it really looked at, just to make sure. Oil stop leak usually just swells the gaskets and is a temporary fix if it even works at all. Those particular gaskets are not "that" difficult if you have any skill, but if you're very inexperienced, then I wouldn't advise it, as they can get trickey. If anything, ask your friends and you may find a "GOOD" backyard mechanic that acan do the job at a price that makes it worth while. In the meantime, check your oil daily at least, so that you dont do anymore damage. Hope I was helpful. Good Luck

You obviously have a very serious oil leak, and there is no simple solution other than repairing it.
Go to a service facility (dealer or repair garage) and get a quote. Then decide whether it is worth paying that price to have a 97 dodge neon with 134,000 miles, or whether you would rather put that money toward a car that will last longer than the Neon.

You've gotten very good service if you've gone 134,000 miles before your first major leak. Take it in and get it fixed, it's probably just a gasket or a seal. You're also very lucky there was no damage after being 4 quarts low in a 5 quart system.

....If you REALLY want to waste, er I mean , spend money on a 'Neon', then replace the leaking gaskets. And do not let your oil volume get below (less than 3 quarts silly) you want to ruin your engine?

Could be the rear main seal. No matter what though, its a 97 Neon. Maybe you should think about getting a new car, especially if it is the rear main seal.

IF YOU DON'T GET IT FIXED, YOUR CAR WILL RUN OUT OF OIL AND THEN BLOW UP. YOU NEED TO GET IT FIXED.
