Yep. I'm surprised no one jumped out and told you this, but DePaul rocks! It is just excellent and you will definitely have the downtown experience this way. Alternatively, you can live on their other campus in Lincoln Park. Also ultra cool.

The University Center of Chicago provides dorm housing for students at Columbia, Roosevelt and DePaul University. You have to be a student at one of these schools to get housing there. Not sure about the views (never been inside a dorm room), but judging from its location, it should be pretty cool.

Some of the University of Illinois at Chicago dorms have good views. It depends what direction you're facing.
Downtown, you have Columbia, DePaul, and Roosevelt.
You shouldn't choose a school just because it's buildings have a nice view.

That's not exactly a good reason to choose a college.
However, there are many fine choices in that area. Roosevelt University used to have it's main campus right across the street from Buckingham Fountain. Not sure if it's still open though. They had opened a major campus in Arlington Heights and there was talk of moving everything there, last I checked. There is University of Chicago, a couple of miles north of there along Lake Shore Drive. BAD neighborhood though to live in. A couple of miles away from the water is University of Illinois Chicago and Rush medschool. There used to be student apartments down there but they tore much of that down to make room for condos once the time ran out for the projects across the street. You might be able to rent a condo in the area or in the nearby Printer's Row area. UIC also has a system of dorms. There is Loyola far north along Lake Shore Drive. You can get an apartment with a parking space and commute in along LSD. There are apartments all up and down Lake Shore Drive, the gold coast, printers row, the pier over there and the north side. Tons of places to live in the area you are talking about.
Chicago has a nice view, but quite frankly I loathed the area when I was doing graduate work down there. Half the time, I had to walk around strapped (WARNING: concealed handguns are highly illegal in the city limits) because of all the low life scum and gang neighborhoods that come right up to the borders of the normal neighborhoods. It's all the fault of those idiot liberals that came up with the idea for the projects. Luckily, most of them are now expired and those people were all being given the boot out of the city last I heard. Might have cleaned up somewhat. There are good colleges and grad schools all over the city however.
Just know what you are getting yourself into.

That! is a cool question. Nice that someone appreciates the architecture so much.
I don't have the answer to the question, but if you have found that a section of town motivates you to study then you are in touch with your senses.
Good luck in college.
