because nobody knows who they are anymore

Because there is now so much communication and travel that being alone or withdrawing into a remote area no longer allows you the same freedom of separation and distance that allows people who cannot or do not wish to get along with dissimilar people to not have to deal with other people, creating increasing pressure and stress that leads to more hatred and conflict.
