Were her comments tandamount to treason?

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/12/02/061202162419.xtnkgaet.html

"I love the English lifestyle, it's not as capitalistic as America. People don't talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner"
"I like living here because I don't fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans."

Boycott her films!

Oh just ignore the silly woman. When she first came here to the UK she never had a good word to say about anything. She constantly moaned about the weather, the parking situation, the men, the education system, everything. Then once she became Mrs Coldplay she suddenly thinks she's British and loves us. I can't take anything she says seriously

Just turn your head and let it go. I have never liked her all that much. When you have lived in a country you can better identify the things you do and don't like about it. I am US and I love my country but I have met my share of unscrupulous people and currently living in Saudi Arabia with all the terrorists that supposedly come out of this country I still feel safer than in certain cities back home. I work with several friends from the UK and they too both love and hate certain parts of their homeland as well. The bottom line is most A-listers are shallow and are going to be happy wherever they go because they can afford to live how middle class people can't. They can change their surroundings and who they talk to. They are important in their own mind but unless they launch a personal direct attack on you they aren't hurting anything because they are generalizing. Go have a beer and let it go. She's not Cinderella, she'll never sit on congress, nor have any political power. She's just another human, no better nor worse than the billions of others on this planet. In another week, who's going to care anyway?

Her and Madonna would be singing different tunes if their movies, dvds, music, etc. were banned in America. They sure like making the money off the citizens of our "capitalist" country. They're hypocrites. Paltrow and Madonna can kiss my a*s.

Paltrow is a poor actress looking for something to make people notice her. The circles she is in is not the normal British citizens but the elite. The lower classes are not working at all but living in council housing and getting government checks. No need to talk of work if you are not working. Sadly this is not the gang she is associating with. She is sitting with the gang that trots off to the coast of France for wine tasting classes! I have met her and she is bore take no notice!

No i don't think so. People have a right to voice their opinions. Just because you don't agree with her doesn't mean she should be stripped of her citizenship. I do seem to recall that the United States of America IS a free country. Right?

She's got alot of nerve knocking capitalism. She grew up as a rich Hollywood kid (her Mom is actress Blythe Danner and her Dad was a producer, Bruce Palthrow). If the British are more intelligent than Americans, she's in trouble. She named her kid, Apple.

Well, I find those comments a little inflamatory and insulting, but the beauty of America is that we uphold freedom of speech. I don't think she should lose her citizenship because of it. I'm insulted that she would make those generalizations, but that's my right here too.

Let's not, via this board, give her another reason to feel as she does though, okay?

No!

Since when did someone's opinion about living in England vs. living in the USA become tantamount to treason? Oh wait, because the opinion seems to 'put down' the USA.

Paltrow should no loose her citizenship for those comments. Due to the simple fact that it is her opinion and she has a right to that. On of the things that we as Americans pride ourselves on is all of our freedoms, one of which is freedom of speech. If she was not an actress no one would have cared if she had said those things. We should not punish her for that. Also, her films should not be boycotted she is a talented actress. Her films should be watched due to the storyline or her ability to act, which is great and amazing. You can like someone as an actress/actor or singer without liking the person themselves.

I'm Canadian but I'll respond anyway...As disgusting as her comments may be to you, American culture prides itself on freedom and so as an American citizen she has the right to say what she wants. I've forgotten the philosopher who said this, but it sounds like a profoundly American thing to say: "I may despise what you say, but I'll fight to the death for your right to say it."

I also find her comments disgusting and as she's free to say what she wants, I'm free to boycott her films (which I will)

However, I think her citizenship should remain intact.
