I live on a college campus. I found an iPod in a computer lab. I kept it and put up a sign saying I found it. But, since ANYONE can just see the sign and call me and say, "Yeah, that iPod's mine," even if it's not theirs, I wrote on the sign:
E-mail [my address] with the following information:
- model of iPod
- 5 songs on the iPod (beginning with "A" for convenience)
- any engravings, covers, decorations
Do you think that's reasonable? Or is there a better test that I could use? How should I arrange for us to meet to return the iPod? What do I do if nobody responds, or none of the respondants pass the test?
It has to be sufficient to weed out the liars, but lenient enough for the actual owner to be able to do.
