I think a lot of the time especially in this day and age, what we mean is urban culture instead of black culture. With the recent influx of blacks from other cultures migrating here as well as more professional blacks become established, I think it's highly irresponsible on your part to assume that blacks don't assimilate into society. Here's a thought, turn off your television and meet blacks from all walks of lives and different cultures and don't allow media to brainwash you so much.

A black person is not the head of Viacom. Blacks are being exploited by these stations. Actually, this station exploits people in general. It is all about the money. This gangster image is pushed and pumped up to black as the way to live. The blacks that make money off of the gangster image are looking out for their own bottom line. This young artist are making it seem like one can have "bling" without having to work hard for it. The average person will not became a star and live the glamorous life by acting ghetto.
These stations do not promote education or hard work. Because parents are allow their children to watch this mess and because young adults are being brainwashed by this mess, you have people that are messed up.

Most of us who are black do not speak broken English and we don't commit crimes. Are there a lot of us living in poverty? Yes.
Music? I like music, Jazz, classical, R&B, New Age, World, even some Country.
Racism? every people has some of that.
You have to feel that you are accepted to want to assimilate don't you?
You have to feel that the criminal justice system wiil grant you the same justice as anyone else.
You have to feel that you have the same chance at a good job as anyone else.
You have to feel you can date who you want without heads turning and whispers behind hands.
Way back in the day it was Irish, Chinese, Japanese, Hispanics and Latinos who didn't belong, that has narrowed. It is still a matter of the darker and poorer you are the worse you get treated. Anyone who can't see this should try walking around as one of us brown folks, lets see if you can last a month, a week, or even a couple of days without the shield that most have that they are not even aware of.

That sounds a little...biggettish.
MTV and the like encourages everyone to live the gangsterific way of life. It's not like they're only broadcasting rap videos to black house holds.
There is a problem with American culture in general. We have lazy white people who complain about others, minorities who live in ghettos, and white kids who want to be a minority child living in the ghetto.

For blacks to integrate and assimilate into the white American society it takes first that this society accepts them once and for all without any more prejudices.
An evidence that these prejudices exist is the way you have posted your question.
The first measure would be to increase their possibilities to educate their children;
equal job facilities and salaries; better homes and less ghettos; broken English, crime rate are just a direct consequence of their poverty, and the latter is the consequence of considering them generally inferior to us.
I’m convinced the first step has to be taken by us, and eventually, they will follow.

Primarily the question is one of motivation. "When will blacks assimilate into society?" would lead one to believe that they wish to partake in collectively improving their lot.
It is the very minority of this minority that has the persistance and inherit virtues to rise above their common, self created plight.
Society, as a whole, must stop offering credits and handouts that perpetuate their self induced handicap. The recent reduction of welfare benefits less than 10 years ago has helped, to some degree, but the jails remain full of street-wise cultured criminals.

those things are all sterotypes. music doesn't encourage people to live richly or poorly.
I think its okay to have a black network and a gay one and one for relgious people. I still theink there should always be more diverse stations than ones for individual people. sometimes you jsut want things to relate to you and who you are- as long as its not an all the time thing its healthy

I think of society not as a melting pot, but as a salad whenre everyone merges together, but keeps their own identity.
However, I do agree that the images presented to blacks by blacks is one where they appear to be shearing away from society and a kind of norm that is beneficial to all

Those channels need to be barred from TV because of the harm they do to the well-being of the United States. Not all Blacks fit your stereotype, however.
