Do a totally deadpan documentary, totally deadly serious, about one of the following (think a PBS/Ken Burns style approach, massive overkill, reenactments, the works):

--The old TV show, _The Beverly Hillbillies_. Really, just doing some of the lines from the show (never mind the theme song), in that ultra-serious, Ken Burns voice...."There was....a little story...about a man....named *Jed*..." Really, be so dead serious about what was, for the most part a mediocre comedy, that folks are just baffled by the question: "How are they keeping a straight face?"

(and if that doesn't work.....remix the Flatt and Scruggs intro to the TV show to a modern beat, something like Panjabi MCs "Mundian a Bach Ne" or something)

--A day in the life of a Vending Machine....that never works correctly. :) Rig it so the machine never gives the right product, gets things stuck, either never gives change, or gives out too much.....make it the messed-up machine from Hell.

And then install a discreet camera and microphone or three so you get people's reactions from multiple angles. :) And treat the "drama" like high tragedy....

--Do one about Cat Boxing....record lots of video or film footage of various cats, using their claws on furniture, objects and each other, and then edit and mix it until it looks like a "Rocky" movie, complete with a Balboa cat running around going "Ayyyoooo Adrian, I did it!" :))

An alternative version would be to do the Cat Kung Fu film, only with hip-hop voices. =))

--Do one about what happens when women go *in pairs* to the Restroom. Make the Rabbit Hole go *very deep*. Do (with permission of course) a very dry, tongue in cheek sort of X-Files-Goes-To-Cheerleading-Camp kind of thing wherein you find out just *how* women get trained to be giggling ditzes....or some such.

--Do an MTV style "interview" with a hot, rising hip-hop star....from 20 years into the future, once Wal-Mart and Microsoft Officially Own Everything (tm).

Bleep and/or audio-distort *everything* the "artist" says except for the words "a", "an", and "the", maybe the occasional "Yo!" or "[grunt]", and maybe one or two semi-random words that sound just fine in normal use but are *messed up* in that context.

Otherwise, make the guy sound like *Pac-Man* with all the censored comments. :))

--Do the same thing as immediately above....only now, you interview the *last English-speaking American*, some 50 years into the future, when Western Civilization has collapsed, and the Chinese, Mexicans, Muslims, Evangelicals and Druggies *co-own* and bitterly contest everything that remains of a ruined nation.

Again, *censor* anything that is even remotely Anti-anyone, leaving only "a", "an" and "the", and the occasional random word that sounds distrubing only in that context. And have your subject try to *explain* his "ordinary" behavior and ettiquette to you under those terms (without looking like a pinhead).

Hope this helps! There's got to be at least *one* amusing documentary in there.

Just saying. ;)

I'm not sure what to tell you specifically for the Salem witch trials, but I'm certain that enough ludicrous events took place there for you to create a funny piece. I might suggest starting by going through some of your readings on the trials and the Puritan culture of the period and make a list of the things that strike you as the stupidest things you've ever heard. There will be many of these. From there I would try to think of ways to portray each one in a way that highlighted how ridiculous each item on your list really was. For example, interview some of the townsfolk to get their take on things. Show them for just how ignorant they were. Maybe interview a minister about the witches and ask him whether or not he believes that the accused women having been in the accusers' dreams really means they're witches. He could say something like, "Well, heaven knows I've seen a lot of women in MY dreams... wait, I mean... All right, interview's over..." Anything you can think of to ridicule the beliefs that allowed the people to believe such nonsense to the point of murdering members of their communities. Also, I might suggest watching some of the best mockumentaries ever created: "Waiting for Guffman," "A Mighty Wind," and "This is Spinal Tap." Must sees for anyone interested in the topic.. Hope I've been of some help, at least. Good luck!!

Well, if you want funny, do it on a funny person. A comedian or an eccentric. Groucho Marx, Bob Hope, or maybe Ru Paul, that would be fun.

How about the silicone mountain which is at this moment growing as implanted breasts. What if all these women decide they made a mistake and want to go back to their original size....could we cope with all that silicone being released in the world?

The Salem with trials were not really funny. They were tragic. in my opinion, making a mockumentary about them is in very poor taste.
