far left and far right are therms from an ancient world. There are 2 big sorts of political point-of-views: economical and individual, the differences are the next:
You can have a very left economy and give a lot of individual freedom, the ideologies that support this is socialism.
They are for a lot of government control on the economy (nationalizations, heavier taxes), but they also like to give a lot of personal freedom (trade unions, freedom of speech, ...). Famous examples are: Chavez of Venezuela (this is highly discussable, I know), Trotsky, Lenin and Nader.
A verly left economy can also be a totalitary society, examples: Soviet-Union under Stalis, Cuba of Fidel, ... The economy here is in hands of the government, but there is no free speech and no freedom of the presses.
A right-wing economy and individual freedom is called libertanianism. A good example seems to be the founding fathers of the USA (George Washington, ...) and also the US liberal parties.
If you want everything on the right, then you get Bush, Reagan, ...
They offer tax cuts to big companies for example. But they don't give a lot of personal freedoms (with this I mean: no abortion, not much stem-call research, ...)
So you see that the part of the political spectrum that hates Bush can't immediately be labeled "far-left." There are many other gradations.

They are opposites in many ways, both have more extreme views, Normally in the history of our country With the balance somewhat of power with the House and Senate and Presidency, the NORMALLY balance each other out, They collide, butt heads, far left would raise minimum wage to $15 per hour, the far right would lower it to $1 per hour, If a company makes 50 million profit, the far right says give it all to the CEO, the far left says give it all to the employees who made the profit, the place in between in give the CEO 15 million and give $5000 bonuses to all the workers, normally with the checks and balances in place, the end up somewhere in the middle, that way either side cant screw things up to much. When either party controls everything they can swing it to far either way.
Honestly, you guys really need to read up on Corporate Welfare, It might change your one sided views.
Trunkjump, no slam intended, but did you know it was a Republican Supreme Court Justice who wrote the opinion for Roe VS Wade, It was also a Republican Chief Court Justice who agreed with it, allot of gray area
Janet: again, no slam intended, but we now have the largest BY FAR Government in history, we now have BY FAR the most control over us, what we can do, what we see in the media then in our history. We are going more and more in a Corporate owned and ran Government

To me the "far left" and "far right" have one major factor in common, both sides tend not to think about issues on their own merit. They take stands because everyone else does it. ASk one for details about their stand and they are unlikely to know why they believe as they do.
In very simply terms the far right is very strongly in favor of traditional American values, a free economy and very little government control in our day to day lives. The left is strongly in favor of changing our values, a balanced economy where the working people support those who choose not to earn a living and complete goverment control over just about everything.

You're very right. Glad someone sees that.
The "neo-libs" think bush is wrong 100% of the time.
The "neo-cons" think bush is right 100% of the time.
I'm really hoping that they just talk loud and they aren't close to a majority on either side!

I accidentally married into a family of Arians. Through them I was exposed to the opinions of dozens of radical right wingers. They hate Bush as the prostitute he is. They are as far right as they come. They believe Bush planned 9/11. They side with the Palestinians. They don't believe the Holocaust happened. Just because they are racist idiots doesn't mean they aren't far right.

No the right gets a bigger welfare check than I do.
Watchovia Bank Card System got a $700 million dollar welfare check. Now that is what I need. This lousy $840 a month doesn't even cover the cost of Gator Aid and Basket Balls.

Yes they are identical one side wants to protect the environment and the other says corporations do not do anything wrong. One side says the war in Iraq was wrong and the other says we will stay until we win with out defining win. One side cares about the poor and the other wants guest workers so they can have indentured servants. One side believes in science and the other does everything it can to discredit science. They are identical and I this is something I would have never realized without reading your insightful question. Keep it up 'as-salÄm... calaykum

they have nothing in common. it does not matter which R is in the office, the Ds will hate the person. the reverse is also true.
their grounded beliefs control this.
the Cons are for individual freedoms and liberty. the Libs are for control of the individual--i.e. they think they know what is good for the masses.
the Libs would give you a fish that they took from someone else. the Cons would teach you how to fish and allow you the freedom to pursue fishing.
