after using a recovery disk..the same problem occurs. When I get the black Windows screen with the blue bar at the bottom..it goes to a blue screen for half a second (can't read it)..and then the laptop restarts. I can sometimes get it to load up by selecting 'last config that worked' only when it lets me get the selection page...or if I press F12 to select my harddrive so that it will work.

This happens frequently..but sometimes i'm able to start my laptop up with no problem.

I'm considering sending it to the a service provider since it is still under warranty. But if there is a way to fix it myself..i will

I had the same problem and could not fix it myself. I sent to the serice provider they fixed it but lost all of my data.

I would advice you to first backup all your file to an external disk or drive or just write it on a CD before sending it to the service provider.

If you don't know much about computers, then do take it to someone who does. If you are rather familiar, then start in Safe Mode (F8 while starting). When you do that, go to "my computer" and right click on it go to properties. On the "Advanced" tab go to startup and recovery settings. Uncheck the box that says "Automatically restart" in the system failure area. Then reboot your computer. This time it should display the blue screen now and show you the error. Many times it will show a *.sys file or *.dll file and if you can pinpoint which piece of hardware it relates to then you can either reinstall the drivers or get the latest drivers and install those.

If however, you have recently installed a piece of hardware and the above suggestion didn't work, then remove the hardware you installed and see if that gets rid of the problem. It may be a faulty piece of hardware or drivers.

Hi!

I presume you are using Win XP.

The blue screen... often refereed as BSoD (the Blue Screen of Death) is a serious issue under XP.
It most likely says that Win has to restart you PC due to a hardware issue, to prevent damaging your machine.
If you say that this happens randomly then... it's serious.
You should really consider sending it to your provider for a detailed analysis.
If your laptop has SATA drives... (though I doubt it) then... they may be causing the problem.

Good luck!

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

Since it is under warrenty make use of it. If you play with anything other than software you can void your warrenty, something you do not want to do.
