hey, no problem. im german and i speak english, most germans do. we learn it at school. its like everybody under 50 knows at least a little english, young people anyway. i live in mainz, so thats a little far, but im sure you can easily make friends by going to a bar, museum, ice skating or whatever. dont worry, germans seem to stay on their distance a lot, but they usually warm up quickly, especially since the soccer world cup this summer most of us really opened up, i like this development a lot, im used to germans complain a lot, but we also know how to party, and by the way hannover is a very international city anyway... good luck :)

Speaking German or not to speak it that's the question; the answer is most Germans speak both German and English so you might not have a problem; Germans are warm friendly people so you shouldn't have a problems meeting and making new friends.

Sorry for the silence you seem to be experiencing. My tip: Get there, walk into a nice bar, and tadaah! There they are. Just relax, it's all there, waiting for you.
