If he is "able" to let out a few farts, it is in fact gas.
He could be constipated, or just gassy.

Buy Mylicon drops for infants. They work WONDERS!!!!!!!

What kind of foods have you been eating? is there anything you are eating that makes you gassy that you could pass on to your baby??

When was the last time he pooed?

Is he constipated?

When my son was little I had a few tricks to make sure he didn't get stopped up.

1. When wiping him after a diaper change use your finger or the wipe to press is anus. Within an hour he should poo. If not...

2. Use a SMALL piece of soap (something like Dove no perfumes) the size of the pink on your pinkie nail. Make sure the pieces is rounded. Use it as a suppasatory. This worked within in 30-60 minutes.

When it's gas. I used the 'bicycle' with his legs. Just push his legs to his belly and wiggle. Myalcon drops are supposed to work well too. But, I didn't find out until too late.

ALSO, since your breastfeeding it could be what your eating. I stopped spicy foods and dairy. Also, green and red peppers as well as cauliflower seemed to worsen it. My son wouldn't nurse if I ate broccoli! lol.

I would make a food diary. And, notice when it happens. Or, if you had wings (hot) last night that's probably the problem.

Good Luck!

PS: NO JUICES!! He is still too young to digest the sugar in the juice. Same with water - his kidneys are not developed enough yet.

could be trapped gas behind some constipation.

I just went thru this. I couldnt fart for days, my stomach was hard and big and I could feel my stools when I pushed around there. I was only dropping out little, hard marble like poos after a lot of straining-that is never good. It was horrible.

When I finally passed gas, it smelled rotton. I finally had to use an enema to flush out my insides. It was horrible. It was a great relief to get it all out, but what I went thru to get it out was difficult. I would not suggest an enema.

Maybe get him on some prune juice or something, maybe some hot tea? put a heating pad on his belly to warm it and maybe move his bowels, then he'll be farting and happy. Good luck! Hope he feels better..if he hasn't pooped in a couple of days, check with the Dr. too.

Honey, babies get gassy- that's one thing they know how to do very well.
Give him some gripe water, and if you can, go to a baby massage class- they will show you some massages to ease the back up in their systems. I would tell you how in this answer, but I'm awful at explaining things, and I'd probably tell you wrong, but definitely look into baby massage.
