My daughter was 3 1/2. We heard little footsteps outside our bedroom door headed toward the living room. We got up expecting to find a 3 1/2 year old rummaging through presents. Instead, she was kneeling by the tree singing 'Happy Birthday' to Jesus. I cried!

Until I was 9, the general great memory was: Staying at my grandparents huge house with my aunts, uncles, cousins, parents. Sleeping there even though we lived right down the street and could have gone home to sleep.
It was nice that the entire family was together from xmas eve all the way through xmas day. Only the top half of the tree could be seen...the presents were piled so high they covered the tree. It wasn't how many presents I got...it was how pretty the huge tree looked with so many presents piled around.
In 1976, I remember one special christmas...same place, same family members. My grandfather was very wealthy. My grandmother was to die only 5 days later from uterine cancer, so she was very sick, but she was still there.
I received my first camera. I was 9 years old. I went around taking photos of all the family members...now I understand the historic importance, because in every photo, the adults were crying and embracing. (sadness from my grandma's impending death). I also took a lot of photos of my grandmother....because I loved her and thought she was pretty...not because she was sick.
I also remember that year standing outside, and not only looking for santa's sleigh flying through the sky, but also looking for UFOs. (That was a popular year for "sightings")
I now remember that xmas as the best, because after that, ALL the aunts/uncles divorced, which started spirals of dysfunction. Of course, my grandmother died, my grandfather's business failed, he went bankrupt, moved further away, then also died, my uncle committed suicide and me and my cousins all spent the following xmases apart, dealing with all our mothers' 1970's liberalities and addictions. My best memories are there because they ceased that year.
At least I was able to have a few absolutely opulent and family-filled holidays, so I know what they SHOULD be like.
Some people never have that luxury. My husband grew up in Mexico. They were so poor that when he was 6, he remembers writing to Santa asking him if they could "PLEASE have just some peanuts to eat on Christmas Day". They never even got peanuts. They didn't eat at all that day.
That is why it is good for us to realize how good we really do have it, and to maybe give more to families who truly do not have the means to celebrate the holiday season.

OK. This may not be a Good Christmas Memory to anyone on hear but it was to My family and I. OK, My Family and I were telling jokes and putting Christmas Lights around the house and the tree. So I'm a Female and my father asks us, "Who wants to help with the lights?" So I said, "Me Me I want to help" So I went up on the ladder and I had a Bunch of Lights in my hand, and so, I kinda tripped and I ended up falling but the only thing supporting me was the lights. So at that time, I just decided to let go and I fell in the snow. I didn't have Bumps nor Bruise. And my family was laughing. It felt funny to me too so I started to laugh. I would get in details with it, but I'm not.

Every year is special since I've had the kids,...but when I was a kid, one Christmas we went to Grandma's, travelling about 4 hours... The snow was plentiful that year, with the snow heaped high at the sides of the highway. The trees were close to the road, and seemed that much closer with them blanketed with snow that sparkled in the late afternoon. Songs were singing on the radio, and we were all singing along. There was no fighting with my brother, we didn't say r we there yet, no grumpin' from dad, it was an awesome trip......and then seeing gramma's eyes light up when she greeted us at the door......... :)

Whenever I see the Life Saver Christmas Story books it takes me back to my grandmother.. she always bought us those.. she couldnt buy much else.. they were very poor.. now as an adult and now that she is gone.. it brings asmaile to my face and a warmth to see those in the store...
My other grandmother would buy me a new ornament for the tree every year.. by the time I was an adult.. I had enough ornaments for the whole tree.. and now Im 30 and she still sends them to me.. .

My fave memory is last year my two very best friends had a little x-mas party for me because I told one of them that some other friends of mine that I exchanged gifts with never gave me a chance to celebrate with them so the three of us had a private little party and we ate and drank and exchange gifts. I loved it so much. Best time of my life.
