Lots of answers but none that hit the mark. What you do is run an empty load with about three cups of bleach. This will kill anything living in the internal works. Then run another load with just hot water and some Lysol, (you know the brown stuff). It'll make the wouse stink like cleaner for a day but it will cure your problem once and for all.

Have you tried these balls that you put in the dishwasher and run an empty load to deodorize? They see them at Bed, Bath & Beyond and lines-n-Things. They come with 10 in a pack i think and only cost $5 or so. you can also put these same balls in the disposal and it keep the smells down. Or try the new dawn packs that are scented.

Sounds like moisture or dirty dishes sat in there a while, empty it out and run vinegar through it, use a whole bottle avg size and it should clean out the houses and make it smell better, works good to run through your coffee maker too

You clean your sink and bath so they're clean for washing up or washing yourself, why not your dish washer? I think probably grotty greasy stuff is lodged there and becoming smelly. There are cleaners made to run in your m/c instead of d/wr powder, made by the same companies. Give your machine a thorough wash/scrub. Good luck.

I run a couple of dish loads thru with 1/8 a cup of bleach. Do you have a septic tank or are you on a sewer?

Buy a dishwasher cleaner and use it a few times. I clean mine once a month and it always smells good, at least like it's brand new. Good luck.

take the dish containers out and give the inside a good wash, It is a build up of mildew from not completely drying the dishes after they wash.

Put baking soda in the soap dispenser and turn it out. It should get rid of the smell.
