We are moving to Washington state in March. We are interested in buying a house close to the Navy base, but do not know much about the area.

Anyone have websites, pictures, ideas on what areas are good for raising families, living, working, etc...We need a well rounded area...or would we be better off living in housing?
What kind of things are there to do in Washington state..Family with two children. (young)

Whidbey Island is a gorgeous place! My favorite town on Whidbey Island is Coupeville. It's a quaint little town right on Penn Cove. It's within reasonable driving distance to Oak Harbor, Anacortes and also the Port Townsend Ferry. Here is a link:

Also if you like camping or going to the beach with your kids, you'll probably like Deception Pass State Park...it's beautiful!

As for what the previous answerer said, you don't need a boat to go to Whidbey Island. Hwy. 20 comes into Whidbey Island from the north, near Anacortes.

Best of luck to you!

You would be better of in the housing on the Naval Base. Whidbey Island does not have a boat leaving the Island after dark and unless you have your own boat you are stuck there. It is a beautiful Island but that entire area is wounderful. It is a great place to raise children. If you like the great outdoors there are a lot of things to do from amusement parks to whale watching.
