The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, and what did you think?

Yes, I read it a while ago when someone recommended it to me. I found it far too obviously moral to enjoy it. To me it is a thinly disguised self help book told through a twee story, however some of my friends were very touched by it. It is only a short book so I suppose it's worth a read if only to see what everyones talking about.

Yes, I thought it wonderful and the 'message', that when you want something the whole universe conspires in helping you to achieve it, really struck a chord with me.

Did you know that Paulo Coelho is Brazilian (Portuguese) for Peter Rabbit?

For a journey of exploration, I found it incredibly shallow. Call me cynical, but nothing revealing, or unusual about the state of the human condition. Possibly even trite. I accept that this book may have helped to change people's lives!

I thought it rather over-rated. I found it predictable; the stressed sincerity of its message seemed rather clumsily forced upon the reader, and above all, I felt it only gave the illusion of having deeper meaning, whereas it was, in fact, quite shallow.
