My PC is the main Internet connection on my network at home and the other PCs on my network running certain programs seem to cause lag for me. I just want to make sure my PC will be getting the fastest internet speed by turning thier speed down a little if possible. Can this be done and how do i do it?

You have a valid question, and I am sure your LAN control software can accomplish this. But, that is a pretty crappy thing to do to the other users on the LAN.

Turn off some of the computers on your home network when not in use. Too many people leave their computers on all day and night--a terrible waste of money and energy. I am sure that not all of the computers are in use all of the time.

Also, a good enough wireless or connected LAN (1-3 users) with good transfer rate should not require any modification.

One last note. Go through the other computers on the LAN and find programs on them that are contantly connected to the net. I bet you will find many viruses and other net nuisances that will keep open connections. Clean them up and you should be fine.

Good luck.

Wow...purely...wow. i'm blown away. no longer with the aid of the question, yet with the aid of the overpowering quantity of moronic solutions. fact: speed does no longer kill. Highways with intense speed limits (80+mph) have a tendency to have the fewest injuries. the final public ensue at speeds lower than 40 mph in cities. fact: study have shown that street injuries that are speed correct are frequently brought about with the aid of persons utilising slower than the flow of site visitors. fact: the final public of states in u . s . a . have a regulation someplace on the books that does certainly enable an officer to challenge a citation, that a courtroom will uphold, to a driving force going the speed reduce and vacationing contained in the leftmost lane. KY, ok, TX, AZ, TN, VA are some i have travelled in that likely cost tag left lane hogs. even with speed. The left lane is for PASSING purely. this does no longer unavoidably mean you may speed. regulation is regulation. even if it isn't only immediately ahead courtesy in many places. that is a regulation. that is nobody's accountability to police site visitors speeds except the officials. bypass over.

How are the other computers connected? If connected via Ethernet slow them down to 10 Mbit from the now standard 100 Mbit or put them on a wireless connection which will also slow there connections.
