You will definitely need to ask the American company to give you more information on this. Some programs of this type bring students over on a J-1 visa, which is an exchange student visa that also allows you to work/intern in the US. This type of visa also requires that upon termination of the internship, students go back to their countries and stay there for a minimum of 2 years before being eligible to return to the US on any other type of visa. The firm that is sponsering your internship needs to be involved with an application for a work-study visa. Also, if the school that is counting your internship for course work is in the US, they need to provide you with documents too, proving you are studing there.

You will need to work with the organization that is hosting you. The US immigration service will want documentation from them. It sounds like you will be working and not studying in the US so it would NOT be the F-1.

You can talk to the firm and find out if they could sponsor a H1B for you.
