Not all people have the maturity to deal with many serious situations, Further more a serious question. It has a lot to do with the way people were educated or the way they were raise or the fact that more children are having children now. Please tell me how mature is a 13,14,15,or a 16 year old child is. What real values or life lessons can that child teach a child. What type of environment will that child's, child's grow up in. Another thing we should know how much compassion does a child really have to pass on to another child. A older parent or a teacher will answer a question seriously and with compassion..... But what kind of answer will you get from a child that is growing up in a home that is lacking in consistancy with un-compassionate parents........................................ Also what about a 21 year old that never had a job and still living with his or her parents what real life lesson do they have to past on................................

The points apparently, that'd be why some rude and uninformed people would answer with a sophomoric comment, answering your question.

There's no incentive/disincentive for them not to. In fact, quite the opposite: there is an incentive (2 points each, I think) for them to post as many "answers" as they can. Points are a form of competition and reputation on this site, but they aren't a representation of quality.
Believe it or not, there are people who study this. How does one design a digital reputation system that can't be "gamed" like this? Google Answers solved this problem by requiring people to pass tests to become "answerers" and keeping tight editorial control over their answers. They charged people to ask questions, and paid a portion of it to the answerer. So they had a system where you could be assured a quality answer, but few people wanted to jump through the hoops to ask or answer a question. The shut Google Answers down this week, while Yahoo! Answers is still going strong.

I think you answered your own question--they're rude and uninformed. In my opinion, the majority of people have no common courtesy anymore. We're living in a me-first society where everyone thinks they know everything and are offended if anyone suggests otherwise. I applaud your question because it's something that bothers me as well.

I must admit, I've given some answers just trying to be funny. But it's usually only when the question is ridiculous and filled with spelling errors. I like making fun of bad spellers. But serious questions, I agree, should be met with serious answers.

Why do some people post questions that really belong in other categories.
Bojangles had the answer People do it because they can.
Why they would want to bother I never understood either.
P.S.
Why are you asking this in MYTHOLOGY and folklore?
Can anyone else give a mythological anwer to the original serious question. I cound not.

If you want a really serious answer, go to a more reliable site! This is basically for fun and jokes, for people who have a little time to waste! Come on, the world is at your fingertips, why come here? Too many kids are here also.

Some do it to be funny (with varying degrees of success). Some are just plain ignorant. I just dismiss the ignorant comments for what they are and put my stock in thoughtful comments and answers.

we who are tolerant must be tolerant of those who are not. agree totally as I asked a serious question aimed at a specific target group and had some who did answer who were not " in the know " of the correct answer.

Some of these people are here ask the dumbest questions. If you don't like the answer they give you then don't pay any attention to it. Its that simple.
