You only need to start birth control for abnormal periods or if you decide to be sexually active. But you must remember that birth control does NOT prevent diseases. Try to hold off on being sexually active because it's not a good idea.

I'm not really sure there is a minimum age (within reason) because sometimes doctor's prescribe birth control if you have severe menstrual cramps (so there are lots of girls that go on the pill when they start their period) You should talk to you doctor about it. You SHOULD be on it if you are seriously considering becoming sexually active, or if you are already sexually active. You should still use additional protection to prevent contracting an STD.

I started when I was 16 - but some of my friends started earlier. There is no "should" start it date - some people never use it. But if you want the protection from pregnancy, or if you have irregular periods its a perfect solution. Your doctor will tell you if they think you are too young - but that is their opinion - if they wont do it (and they probably will do it) you could change doctors.

You can start birth control at any age that you are sexually active, but some physicans perfer over 15 years of age. You should start taking it for about a week for it to get into your system, then you can have sex.

remember, oral form or any other forms other than condom will not prevent you from contracting sexually transmitted diseases (STD). even with condom you will be getting a chances of 95% STD. so practice sexual activity with a safe partner.
