A file does not actually get deleted even if you clean it out of the recyle bin. It is mearly taken out of the file directory. Technically speaking, the system justs adds a ? to the front of the file so it's not shown in the file directory. for example hello.doc become ?ello.doc.
Of course, if another file gets saved over the deleted on in that sector of the harddrive, the file is gone for good.

The file is not totally deleted until it is written over by another file. When you delete a file, the "pointers" are deleted but a good deal of the file still remains. In essence the operating system is told that the space previously used by the file is now available for use by another file.
If you are concerned about information that is on your hard disk, you can use a utility that completely erases the files when you delete them. I think the generic term is shredder utilities.

In most file systems when you delete a file it is actually just removed as an entry in a table that tells the computer where to look for the data on the drive, the contents of that file are still physically on the media until overwritten by something else.

That depends on HOW you delete the file.
Regular "delete" simply removes the files "location" from the FAT (File Allocation Table), and freeing up the space to be reused. The file itself remains until the space is overwritten by new information.
"Security" deletes, on the other hand, in addition to the above, can actually "blank" the areas used by the file, removing the information, and leaving the area as "random" characters; or overwrite the area 1 or more times with a specific character(s); in any case making the file "unrecoverable".
It all depends on what your system is set up to do, and/or what additional software you are using to delete WITH.

Ok.If you have deleted some files from Recycle Bin, its difficult t retrive them without the help of good recovery software.
When you delete some file from Recycle Bin, the file is not completely deleted from the hard disk. The infrmation stored in a computer has unique address where they are stored. So when you delete data, its address only deleted from the hard disk. So its difficult to retrive the data which has got no address on your hard disk
No data is permanently deleted from the hard disk. You need some good Recovery software to identify the address of the data to retrive them back.
Hope it help you

Hi!
If you delete one file by simply choosing Delete.. the file is moved to Recycle Bin (that's a folder on the partition).
If you chose Shift+Delete the file is removed from hard drive.
However, under Windows the removed files begin with "?" (that's a reserved character).
Now, all deleted files physically exist on the hard drive, until they are overwritten. If they are not, they can be recovered with Data Recovery Applications, such as Ontrack Data Recovery 6..
You can use, however, special applications, such as McAfee Shredder to alter deleted files and folders beyond recovery!
Good luck!

Even if you deleted the files by using Shift + Delete it will just remove the entire in the File allocation table. So if you didn't save any file there is a possibility to retrieve the data, by using some special software.
These URL's are for your reference only you can use any of the Software which you guess it is best.
