I used to take the outline of the place where I needed to learn the stuff. . .like just the outline of the country. then I would study the real map, and try to fill in the mountains, rivers, cities on the outline without looking.

OR make some lists such as:
Bogota, Quito, Lima, La Paz, Brazilia, etc etc (all capitals in South America. Then you take the first letters:
b
q
l
l p
b
and make a sentence that starts with those letters (to jog your memory at test time):

"Be Quiet Lizzie!" Little Patty Barks.

Then you just memorize the sentence and you have the first letters of the capitals!

Worked for me! Study well.
